Andromeda is a DK weight 100% superwash merino single ply, super smooth and soft. It takes color like a dream.

3.5 ounces (100g), 240 yards (219m) per skein.

18-24 stitches / 4 inches on US Needle Size 4-6 (higher gauge for accessories, looser for lace). Not recommended for socks due to its single ply construction.

"Aurora" is a fingering weight 100% superwash merino single ply, super smooth and soft. It takes color like a dream.

3.5 ounces (100g), 400 yards (365m) per skein.

18-32 stitches / 4 inches on US Needle Size 1-6 (higher gauge for accessories, looser for lace). Not recommended for socks due to its single ply construction.

Birte is a DK weight 75% superwash merino, 15% cashmere and 10% bombyx silk three-ply yarn.

Each skein is 3.98 ounces (113g) and 275 yards (251m) and knits at approximately 20-24 stitches over 4 inches (on US 4-6).

Birte (pronounced BEER-tah) is named for the Danish goddess of the home and crafting. This luxurious yarn is a blend of superwash merino, cashmere, and bombyx silk and is perfect for anything: scarves, shawls, hats, cowls, mitts, vests, sweaters and special socks to pamper your feet.

Birte is the DK weight version of Verdande (worsted), Sunna (fingering), and Nona (heavy laceweight, with a higher luxury fiber content).

Brigantia is 3-ply DK weight, 85% Polwarth (a crossbreed sheep which is 75% Merino and 25% Lincoln Longwool) and 15% Silk.

8 ounces / 210g / 600 yard skeins

Note: each skein is actually 700+ yards; my mill used to have much more variation in yardage between skeins, but they've since straightened it out. I've kept it listed at 600 yards, though, because I didn't want anyone to think it was a different yarn.

22-24 stitches / 4 inches on US size 3-6 needles.

Polwarth is nearly as soft as merino, but with the longer staple length of Lincoln it pills much less than merino. 15% silk adds sheen and wonderful drape to this all-around workhorse of a yarn. Brigantia is fantastic in any stitch pattern you can imagine. It creates a fabulous, wonderful, drapey lace fabric but works equally well in cables and other stitch patterns, and shines in stockinette. Knit it more tightly for DK weight patterns, a bit more loosely for light worsted, and much looser for lacey, drapey projects.

Brigantia is a celtic goddess (also known as Brigid or Bridget) considered the patroness of poetry, smithing, medicine, arts and crafts, cattle and other livestock, sacred wells, serpents (in Scotland) and the arrival of early spring. She is sometimes associated with Minerva and also considered a weaving diety.

Spirit Trail Fiberworks Yarn and Sweater Clubs include colorways exclusive to the clubs, complimentary color options, my favorite swag, special patterns. Clubs reopen in January, 2019. Subscribe to my newsletter to receive notice of club openings before they're posted online!

The 2018 Sweater Club is now closed. I've left this page up for information purposes, as future years will be set up similarly. Monthly payment options are typically open until mid-late January, and up-front lump sum payments are open until early May.

If you'd like to hear about my Clubs before they open, please sign up for my newsletter. Newsletter subscribers get advanced notice and a secret sign-up page before the clubs open to everyone else.

Sweater Clubs are only included here for US shipments, due to the wide variance in Canadian and International shipping costs to different destinations. However! I am happy to include Canadian or International Customers in the Sweater Club! Email me if you're interested, and I'll calculate shipping specifically to your destination (monthly and lump sum payment options are also both available for Canadian and International sweater subscriptions, and I can provide both options for you in the calculations).

Sweater Club Details:

  • Sweater Clubs provide enough yarn in each sized shipment to knit a variety of sweater designs, with a discount of ten percent (10%) off retail for monthly payment options, and twenty percent (20%) off retail prices for up-front lump sum payment options.
  • Each shipment also includes fun swag and surprise goodies, at a discount of approximately 25% off retail (these are some of my favorite knitting accessories and tools that I really think every knitter should have at least one of, if not more :-) ).
  • Colors are exclusive to the club and will not be released to the public, ever. There will be tonal solids as well as variegated and / or speckled colorways included in the Club. Each shipment I will also create one to two complimentary and / or contrasting colors (and possibly even a kit of mini skeins) which may be purchased by current club members at a 10% discount off retail prices.
  • Subscribers can purchase any club color on any STF base, in any quantity, as long as they are current club members. Purchases will include the 10% club discount. Not all bases may be available, depending upon availability, and at some point club colorways may also be retired prior to the end of the Club year (so, if you love a color and would like to order to more, it's best to order as soon as possible to ensure you can order what you want).
  • Club shipments will be sent via USPS First Class or Priority mail (depending upon the package weight).

(CLOSED) For monthly club subscribers, payments run from January through August (a total of 8 monthly payments).

Sweater club ships out every 4 months from March through November (3 total shipments). Club shipments will occur around the 20th of each shipment month (shipment months are March, July, November).

Brigantia, 85% Polwarth, 15% Silk, 600 yards per 250g skein (each skein is closer to 700 yards, but priced and listed at 600 due to past wide variances from my mill which they have since worked out)

M/L: 3 skeins (1,800 yards)
L/XL: 3 skeins (1,800 yards)

It's always really hard to choose which yarns to include in the Clubs. For 2018, I've selected several "old favorites," included some of my own "new favorites," and added one brand new base I haven't released yet, but really love. All will create wonderful, soft accessories and are an absolute pleasure to work with. For me, a big part of what I enjoy about knitting is the tactile pleasure of feeling the yarn in my fingers. I've selected bases that I adore for this reason as well as how beautifully they take color, and how wonderful they are to wear.

I went with yarns that are perfect for luxurious, soft one and two skein projects. Since most are superwash (or organic non-shrink) they're also eminently suitable for gift and baby / child knitting, if you're so inclined. I hope you are intrigued by the selections!

The following yarns are included in the 2018 Clubs (please note that they will not ship in this exact order; which yarn ships when will be dependent upon the delivery schedule from my mill, and is an added surprise in addition to color! :-) ):

Selene (dk weight 100% non-shrink organic wool), 255 yards per 115g skein.
Sunna (fingering weight superwash Merino, Cashmere, & Silk), 356 yards per 115g skein.
Aurora (fingering weight 100% superwash Merino single ply), 400 yards per 100g skein.
Verdande (worsted weight superwash Merino, Cashmere, & Silk), 220 yards per 115g skein.
Zaftig (super bulky 100% 20.5 Fine Merino, singles), 90 yards per 150g skein.
Andromeda (dk weight 100% superwash Merino singles), 240 yards per 100g skein.

Please be sure to subscribe to the correct club for your location! (no worries; if you subscribe to the wrong destination, I'll cancel your subscription and email you so you can resubscribe to the correct club). Also be sure to choose "Club Shipping" at check-out, as shipping is already included in the cost of the club! Thank you!

Dyed-to-Order colorways are special, limited editions colors based on my Subscriber Color Inspiration series. Newsletter subscribers send me inspirational photos each month; I choose one to inspire a new color or colors, and then for a limited time after these special colors debut, dyed-to-order listings will be open to order as many skeins of each as you'd like. Thereafter, the listings will be closed forever more; then I'll dye up all the orders and ship them out approximately three (3) weeks later.

These colors are in-between my regular, repeating colorways and my Lucky Pots, which are absolutely one-of-a-kind, non-reproducible colors. A happy medium, I think. And another way for me to connect with my newsletter subscribers: collaborating on colors together!

If you'd like to play along, subscribe to my newsletter at the top of my home page, or the drop down menu on mobile devices, and send me a photo that inspires you ~ if I pick your photo, you'll get a free skein of your special yarn!

July Subscriber Color Inspirations are now open! These listings will be open July 19 - 25, 2018. See each listing for more details.
Eir is 100% Bluefaced Leicester (not superwash!).

Each skein is 4 ounces (115g) and approximately 235 yards, and knits at approximately 20-26 stitches over 4 inches (on US 3-5).

Eir (old Norse for mercy, or help) is named for the Nordic goddess, or valkyrie, associated with medical skill and healing.

This yarn is a wonderfully wooly bluefaced leicester, longer-stapled so it doesn't pill as much as merino and other softer, shorter-stapled wool. It holds its shape well and creates a wonderfully cohesive fabric once knit and blocked. Eir is great for cables as well as stockinette and lace projects. Since it is not superwashed, it retains all the wonderful characteristics of true wool and still has the wonderful, soft scent of lanolin.

It should be hand washed with care and laid flat to dry.
"Fiona" is 85% 19.5 micron Merino and 15% mulberry (bombyx) silk two-ply fingering weight yarn, super smooth and soft with a wonderful sheen. It takes color like a dream.

3.5 ounces (100g), 491 yards (448m) per skein.

22-32 stitches / 4 inches on US Needle Size 0-4 (higher gauge for socks, looser for lace).

Lucky Pots are OOAK's (one-of-a-kind), absolutely non-repeating colors. I may come up with something similar someday, but never exactly the same.

These colors are my opportunity to have some fun without tracking what I do, to work with color spontaneously. Creating something that can't be recreated keeps things fresh. A potter friend once told me, as he was throwing his 25th place setting for the day: "You only create something once. After that, it's production." (He built himself a salt fire kiln because, even if he wanted to reproduce something, firing it that way made it impossible ... forced creativity, he called it). While I absolutely love creating reproducible colors, he was right. Artists need the freedom to create, just for creativity's sake.

So, Lucky Pots are just that: spontaneous, uninhibited color play. They're the Luck of the Pot, One Pot Wonders, the Pot at the end of the rainbow, the Luck of the Draw ... you get the idea. So, if you see something you love, best to grab it because, as Seals and Croft once said, "we may never pass this way again."

I hope you enjoy these colors as much as I enjoyed creating them!
Luna is 4-ply, worsted weight 100% non-shrink wool. This wool is grown and processed in accordance with GOTS organic standards, even through the process to make it machine washable. My dyes are not completely organic, so I don't list it as an organic product. It's a fantastic new base which, because of the gentler organic processing, retains its wooly characteristics and feel.

200 yards per 3.5 ounce / 110 gram skein.

Gauge: 18-20 stitches / 4 inches on US 6-7

Luna is the worsted weight version of Selene (dk). It is a beautiful 4-ply yarn which works well in a multitude of projects ~ lace, cables, stockinette, colorwork. It's fantastic for baby and child items, or gifts given to non-textile artists, where machine washing is required or inevitable.

Luna is the Roman Goddess personifying the moon. She is often presented as the female counterpart to the sun, and is often depicted driving a chariot drawn by horses or oxen.
My favorite textile tools and accessories!
Nona is 2-ply heavy lace weight, 60% supwerwash merino, 20% cashmere and 20% bombyx silk.

4 ounces (115g), approximately 630 yards per skein.

Nona, named after the Roman Goddess who is the equivalent of Greek mythology's Clotho (spinner of the thread of life), is wonderfully soft yet strong, Nona creates beautiful drapey fabrics and wonderful lace stitch definition.

Nona is the laceweight version of Sunna (fingering weight), Birte is the dk weight version, and Verdande is the worsted weight version (all with a different fiber percentage, higher merino content for higher-wear garments).
Please note that items on sale do not qualify for free shipping.
"Philomena" is 100% superwash merino, super smooth and glossy. It takes color like a dream.

100% superwash merino, 4 ply.

3.5 ounces (100g), 438 yards (400m) per skein.

18-32 stitches / 4 inches on US Needle Size 1-6 (higher gauge for socks, looser for lace).

22-24 stitches / 4 inches on US 3-6.

Selene is the Titan goddess of the moon. She was portrayed as the moon incarnate by Greek poets.

Sunna is 3-ply, fingering weight 75% Superwash Merino, 15% Cashmere, 10% Silk.

This beautiful yarn is a dense fingering weight. It's versatile and works well for socks, fingerless gloves, sweaters and other projects on US Size 1-4 needles, and for lace and looser gauge items on US Size 4-7.

Each skein is 4 ounces (110g) and 350 yards (320m) and knits at approximately 18-32 stitches over 4 inches.

Sunna (pronounced SOO-nah) is named for the Scandinavian goddess of the sun and spinning. This luxurious yarn is perfect for just about any project: scarves, shawls, hats, cowls, mitts, vests, sweaters and special socks to pamper your feet.

Sunna is the fingering weight version of Birte (DK), Verdande (worsted), and Nona (heavy laceweight, with a higher luxury fiber content).
Verdande is 4-ply, worsted weight 75% superwash merino, 15% cashmere and 10% bombyx silk.

220 yards per 3.9 ounce / 113 gram skein.

Gauge: 18-20 stitches / 4 inches on US 6-7

Verdande (pronounced VAHR-ah-nay) is one of the Norse Fates. She is the Fate associated with the present while her older sister, Urd, is associated with the past and her younger sister, Skuld, is associated with possible futures. More often in Norse mythology they are associated with what was, what is and what could come to be. Most current mythologists agree that Urd means Fate (or those actions that have already taken place); Verdandi means Becoming (or those actions in the process of taking place); and Skuld means Necessity (or those necessary actions that drive the whole process).

Verdande is the worsted weight version of Sunna (fingering), Birte (dk), and Nona (which has a higher luxury fiber content). It is a beautiful 4-ply yarn which works well in a multitude of projects ~ lace, cables, stockinette, colorwork.
Zaftig is 100% 20.5 micron Fine Merino, super smooth and soft. It takes color like a dream.

Soft singles, super bulky.

5.29 ounces (150g), 90 yards (82m) per skein.

8-10 stitches / 4 inches on US Needle Size 13-19.
Zalti is 100% Targhee wool (NOT superwash!). This is a 100% raised and made in the U.S. product!

210g / approximately 600 yards, Gauge: 14 to 18 stitches over 4 inches (on US 6 - 9 needles)

This yarn is has a wonderful hand with a definite "wooly" feel (may not be next-to-skin soft for those very sensitive to wool). It's fantastic for sweaters, cowls, scarves, hats and mittens and works wonderfully in garter, stockinette, cables and other stitchwork.

Zalti is a variation of the name for Frau Saelde, who was a folk goddess in southern German-speaking lands. Frau Saelde possessed a wheel and an abundance-bearing horn. Many variants of Frau Saelde's name are known—Selten, Zälti, fraw Selga—from Switzerland to Austria. Witch trial transcripts have her leading witches and spirits who roamed the skies on the Ember Nights, a time pregnant with possibilities and omens of the coming year. Tyroleans said that frau Selga could be seen riding at the head of the nightly host.
